Properties of rice husk ash silica filled natural rubber and acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber blends

Purpose: Rice husk is burnt and discarded without effective use; however, it a reliable resource that can be used to extract silica from its ash (RHAS) incorporated in rubber blends as filler. The effect of Natural (NR) Acrylonitrile-butadiene (NBR) ratio NR/NBR filled with RHAS on physico-mechanical, swelling percentage specific oils (brake oil, hydraulic engine oil) toluene were studied since these have potential applications like fluid sealing. Method: was extracted via sol-gel method characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopic (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) analyses. different NR NBR ratios (100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80, 0:100) prepared by incorporating 25 parts per hundred curing characteristics, physico-mechanical properties evaluated. Findings: XRD, FTIR, SEM analyses confirmed the contains combination nanoparticles large agglomerates. showed preferable characteristics while hardness, compression set, tear strength ranged 60-70 International Rubber Hardness Degrees, 0.5-6%, 10-20 N/mm, respectively. Although tensile (before ageing) low, retention after ageing better blends. Blends high proportion tolerable against toluene, oil low resistance brake oil. Limitation: Time limited evaluate loading levels RHAS. Value: There use seals which require resistance, where 0.5-6% about 60-100% swellings are tolerable, respectively, compromising meanwhile replacing carbon black respective applications.
